We held our second fun day on Saturday 20th at Olive Lane. There was a fantastic turnout in the sunshine, and everyone was hanging out enjoying the vibes and various free activities and performances.
We especially enjoyed performances from Excel Martial Arts and Excel Dance as well as TSD gymnastics and martial arts. Plus Waverley Junior Academy, singing songs from their Beauty & The Beast show, and Jack’s Theatre School who treated us to a peak at their talented students.
Barratt and David Wilson Homes again kindly arranged for some characters to join us from ‘A Whole New World Entertainment’ which the people of all ages loved!
Thank you to our neighbours at Olive Lane, including Karobar, Serve, Canary Bar, Wingers, Specsavers and Hall Court Veterinary Group for joining in the event to bring the community together.
Families took part in football penalty shootouts (Waverley Wandered FC), axe throwing (Marriot Hotel – donations to Bluebell Hospice), wall climbing (courtesy of the WCC) and back by popular demand some circus skills frame (LandTrust). We also had the local Ward Councillor Jamie Baggaley and RMBC’s Library team delivering story time in the Hub.
Active Travel was in attendance, and they brought along ‘Journey Matters’ who were flat out fixing bikes. (Hopefully, ‘Journey Matters’ will be back at Olive Lane before winter)
Local residents and small businesses took stalls to sell their goods and promote their services, and we had a choice of burgers, pizzas, ice creams, and alcoholic drinks to keep us fed and watered during the day. A big thank you to Harworth for allowing us to use Olive Lane again, to all our stallholders and food/drink vendors who participated in the day, and to everyone who came along and helped to make it a success.
Planning is already underway for Saturday 19 June 2027 event. See you there!
Waverley Buds Community Garden Group
The Buds have been very interactive lately. They had the company of a members of the WCC join them on 5 July, when they held their first meeting in the Hub. This led to free mulch and a Saturday morning moving it, amongst a long list of jobs on site.

Waverley Wanderers Football Club (WWFC)
The WCC were also very happy to support the WWFC with their end of season team presentation. They’ve had a bit of a tough year with fundraising, as they had limited access to their grounds so could not raise funds via the tuck shop. The WCC provided a space at the Hub to ensure they could come together and celebrate their successes on the pitch.
A representative from the WWFC said “As a grassroots football club, we’re trying to keep things affordable while still making the day feel special for the players and their families. The boys worked incredibly hard this season, and organiser were really hoping to find a way to give them the celebration and recognition they deserve.”
Looks like they had a great gathering.
Summer holiday activities
This summer holiday the WCC provided a few activities for the families across Waverley including Forest School be Adventuring Angels, Meet and Pet at the Community Hub, and SJD Sports have been providing a few activities at Central Park and in the Hub.
We’ve also hosted a Coffee morning over the summer too for anyone to pop along. The WCC are looking to also hold some Community Groups coffee catch-ups.

Unadopted roads, what’s the hold up?
In Waverley, the arterial roads, Highfield Lane and Lescar Road are owned by Harworth, who are in the process of ensuring Yorkshire Water adopt the sewers under these roads first. Unfortunately, some underground works need to be completed first on these sewers. However, once the sewers are adopted, then the roads can be adopted. Following on from that, the side roads can then be adopted in turn, as they must connect to an adopted road.
If a road has not been adopted by the local authority, then it still belongs to the relevant develop. There have been multiple developers building across Waverley since 2011. We have a page on our website dedicated to assisting residents to determine who owns what in terms of homes and roads: https://www.waverley-cc.gov.uk/who-owns-what Section 38 of the Highways Act 1980 allows the local authority, which is Rotherham Council, to agree with a developer to adopt the road once it is built to an adoptable standard. Rotherham Council, like any other local authority, has the power to adopt, but no duty, and its up to the developer to put the road up for adoption.
