Many people choose to move to Waverley to start a family. In response to the growing number of new babies in the community, we successfully secured grant funding from Voluntary Action Rotherham to support new and growing families. We are delighted to announce that WCC is now officially the Waverley Best Start Network site. Katie is on board and ready to begin classes in October, and we will also host breastfeeding support classes every other Wednesday at the Community Hub.
Working with Family Hubs Rotherham, Katie will offer activities and support for families in and around Waverley. Her classes will be designed for different age groups, helping us reach a wider range of families. She also hopes to run Saturday morning sessions that encourage dads and siblings to bond with their babies and one another.
Waverley Buds
Trading muddy boots and gardening gloves for evening wear, volunteers from Waverley Buds had a fabulous experience attending the glitzy BBC Radio Sheffield Make a Difference Awards ceremony. Held at the spectacular Barnsley Civic Theatre, the venue was absolutely buzzing with glamour and positive energy. Hosted by Ellie Colton and Paulette Edwards, the evening brought together the region’s most inspiring change-makers for a spectacular evening of celebration. While the Waverley Buds didn’t walk away with the winner’s trophy in the fiercely contested Environment category, standing under the spotlights alongside such dedicated local heroes was an incredible honour.
Reaching the final stage was a massive victory in itself for everyone who has put their heart into the community garden. This prestigious evening served as a beautiful validation of the hard work, and community spirit that keeps the community growing. The Buds left the glittering event feeling deeply inspired, thoroughly celebrated, and more motivated than ever to keep our little slice of nature thriving.

Events
We have had an incredibly vibrant and successful summer for the Waverley community! The lineup of activities, from the Forest School, SJD Coaching delivering activity sessions at Central Park, and to the Meet and Pet, clearly brought a lot of joy to local families.
Thanks to all that came to our Wednesday Coffee morning, where there were lots of activities for all ages.
Here is a quick summary of what is coming up next at the Waverley Community Hub:
- October Half Term – the highly popular Meet and Pet is making a return to the Hub. We’ve booked in Cookstars workshops and spooky DNA Halloween Parties for the little ones as well.
- Christmas Highlight – save the date for Saturday 5th December for the Christmas Light Switch-On at Olive Lane, as well as an indoor craft market before then.
A huge thank you to our ongoing groups. Both Monday and Tuesday night youth clubs by Activeregen and SJD Sports respectively continue to run. This is alongside regular sessions from Snuggle and Sooth Baby Massage, Scenic Soul Yoga, and Sound Serenity Jak. All of these you can find on socials and book directly with them.
