A proposed community pharmacy on Olive Lane, Waverley, has hit a stumbling block, with its application recently rejected by the NHS national appeal authority. The decision stated that the need for a pharmacy was based on “convenience” rather than “necessity” — but many residents and local pharmacist Raj believe otherwise.

“This decision doesn’t reflect the reality for many families here,” said Raj, who is leading the proposal through Singhs Medical Ltd. “We know people are struggling to access basic healthcare services. We just need to prove it.”

Pharmacy services have evolved far beyond simply dispensing medication. With the NHS Pharmacy First scheme now in place, pharmacies offer clinical advice, treatment for common conditions, and crucial support for people managing long-term illnesses. Without one in Waverley, many residents could be forced to travel while unwell, delay treatment, or face barriers to care — particularly for young children and the elderly.

Now, Raj and his team are preparing a final appeal and are calling on Waverley residents to help strengthen the case. They need real-life stories that highlight how the lack of local pharmacy access is affecting health, wellbeing, and everyday life in the community.

Whether you’ve faced long journeys for prescriptions, struggled to get medication for a family member, or felt the impact on your ongoing health — your voice matters.

“This isn’t just about convenience,” Raj added. “It’s about supporting the new Waverley Medical Centre with the pharmacy services our community was promised — and needs.”
