Waverley Summer Fun Day

As mentioned in the last edition of Wave, we are holding our Summer Fun Day on Saturday 21st June 12-3pm at Olive Lane.

There will be lots of fun for all of the family including dancing, singing and martial arts performances from local groups and Waverley Junior Academy will be giving us a preview of some songs from ‘Frozen’. Everyone can have fun playing mini crazy golf and giant games of Snakes & Ladders or Jenga. Waverley Wanderers will be coming along with some football activities.

Local residents and small businesses are hosting a variety of stalls, there will be the chance to meet some of the local businesses who have opened or are soon to open on Olive Lane. We have lined up some lovely food options as well as a licensed bar.

Barratt & David Wilson Homes, who originally supported the Christmas light switch-on that we sadly had to cancel, really wanted to provide something for the families of Waverley. They have arranged for some special guests from ‘A Whole New World Event Entertainment’ to visit and make themselves available for photos. Thank you to them for that.

All are welcome to come along. Keep an eye on our Facebook page for updates – https://www.facebook.com/waverleycommunitycouncil

Community Centre

The Council has appointed Jarvale as the contractor to fit out the new Community Centre, to be branded as ‘Waverley Community Hub’. There has been a delay with work starting due to an issue with the gas membrane on the floor in the building. The issue is almost resolved so work can start shortly.

We have a dedicated page on our website for the Community Centre (https://www.waverley-cc.gov.uk/community-centre-build), where we will post more updates as the fit-out work progresses.

Cycling

Cycling UK is hosting local events as part of their ‘Big Bike Revival’ see their website – https://www.cyclinguk.org/bigbikerevival.

There is an event here in Waverley on 28th June. Please see the attached posters for information or go to their website – https://www.crankmonster.co.uk/bbr.

Defibrillators

We have three defibrillators around Waverley for use when instructed by the emergency services. They are located on the wall of the Winter Green pub, on the ‘superbin’ at the Community Garden (on the corner of Highfield Lane/Lescar Road opposite Waverley Junior Academy) and beside the pond at Catcliffe Corner, opposite Hawes Way. Take a moment to familiarise yourself with the locations in case you may need to use them one day. The British Heart Foundation has some useful learning resources about how to do CPR on their website https://www.bhf.org.uk/how-you-can-help/how-to-save-a-life

Over the coming years, the Waverley development will be home to around 4,000 properties plus further commercial and retail development, so as Waverley grows, so can your business!
