Last year the WCC was invited to the Waverley Junior Academyaward ceremony, this year we had the theatre experience! The students from Waverley Junior Academy put on a great performance (in fact a few performances!) of ‘Aladdin Jr’, towards the end of the summer term.
Miss Hughes and her team had clearly worked very hard in the run up to the performances to bring the story to life for their fellow students as well as family and friends. As well as those students who appeared on stage, others were involved behind the scenes arranging costumes, props and decorating the set – great teamwork!
It was a lovely end to the school year, well done Waverley Junior Academy!

Community Garden and the Buds
This year the WCC signed up to a Bio-diversity Policy, to increase bio-diversity where practical, and take bio-diversity into account in its decisions and actions.
The good news is that the ponds within the community garden are delivering on this big time. Since the pond liner was laid in Spring, and with the use of the installed water supply, a water source for nature was created. There has been sightings of a fish, four dragonflies, several frogs, a mouse, a duck egg and a water lily putting out its first flower.
The residents who form the Buds Garden group work hard in their own time to manage this space. If you are interested in joining, why not get in touch: www.facebook.com/groups/430877267676140
We are also working with the garden group to tidy up the garden. We hope to install composters before winter so any green waste can be recycled and re-used on site.

Fishing at Catcliffe Corner Pond
Sustainable drainage systems, often shortened to SuDs, is a term for a set of environmentally-friendly techniques that are designed to help manage and control surface water runoff, particularly in an urban area like Waverley. The SuDs at the bottom off the estate, often referred to Catcliffe Corner pond, holds back water, if the River Rother is deluged with rainfall. This area has not been designed as a fishing spot. It belongs to Harworth and is managed by the Land Trust. In fact, it has not been stocked with fish by the owners. If you do spot a person fishing, please do make a note of the time and date, then email enquiries@thelandtrust.org.uk. Thank you!
Litterpick
Residents are welcome to join in the litter picks being led by a local resident on the third weekend of each month. Members of the WCC are joining in on Sunday 18 August. If you have questions for the WCC, or just want an informal chat, as well as helping keep Waverley litter free, then do join in at 10:30am starting at the community garden off Highfield Lane.

E.ONs heat network consultation
Representatives from EON talked about the plans to expand the District Heat Network from their Blackburn Meadows site on Thursday 25 July at Catcliffe Memorial Hall. Currently the pipeline runs from their site near Meadowhall to the Sheffield arena. They are planning two extensions; one North up to Northern General Hospital, and one South to the AMP.
In terms of the South route, this will go along Europa link, down to the Catcliffe Morrisons Roundabout and then up Highfield Spring to the AMP. Its simpler to engage with the two land owners on this route, Sheffield City Council and Rotherham Council.
You can read more about the project here: www.eonenergy.com/sustainable-cities/sheffield/heat-network-expansion.html and you can download the information boards from the link ‘english’ just about half way down the page.
If you want to know more about heat networks, there is a simple explanation on their website; www.eonenergy.com/our-blog/what-is-a-district-heating-network.html
This is likely to be only the start of the project. E.ON are keen to push out the network, to assist with the net zero strategy the government are aiming for. They also keen for peoples input into how to improve the area after the insulated pipes have been installed. Feedback can be given here: www.surveymonkey.com/r/NWZLGC5
