Recognition

As we start the new year it is right that we recognise various people for their hard work last year. Waverley Community Council is made up of Councillors who give up their free time to attend meetings and work behind the scenes to support and help improve Waverley. Thank you to all the members who continue to serve the Council during 2024.

The Waverley Events team again supported the WCC with the organisation of the Summer Fun Day held at Waverley Junior Academy, and the Christmas event which sadly had to be cancelled due to the stormy weather. Their help is very much appreciated.

The volunteer Community Litter-Pickers and Waverley Buds work hard to help to keep Waverley looking nice and ensuring that it is a nice place to live.

Finally, a big thank you to you, the Waverley residents, for supporting for work of the WCC.

2025- 26 Precept

As we reported in December, the WCC will not be asking RMBC to raise any precept for the financial year 2025-26 in their council tax bill. This is a one-off, zero precept. Residents will still get a council tax bill for their portion of costs from Rotherham Council, Adult Social Care, Fire and Police services.

Annual Resident’s Meeting

Each year Waverley Community Council hosts the Annual Resident’s Meeting. This year it will be held on Thursday 20th March 7:30 – 8:45pm at Waverley Junior Academy. Representatives from Harworth, Rotherham Council’s Neighbourhood Team & Ward Councillors, Wave Magazine and Mosodi (Travel Co-ordinator) have confirmed they will be attending. This will be an informal drop-in session, where you can speak to the representatives face to face. Keep an eye on our website for information about further organisations who will be there.

Waverley Community Hub

Construction work is nearing completion at Olive Lane, including the building which will house the Waverley Community Hub.

There’s lots of work happening in the meantime around planning for the fit-out work, which will take place once we have the keys, and to prepare for when the ‘Hub’ is in operation. We are expecting the keys to be exchanged in February.

Aughton Early Years Centre

Have you recently had a baby, or know someone that has had a baby? Do they live in our catchment area- Aston, Aughton, Swallownest, Ulley, Treeton, Catcliffe, Waverley, Whiston or Brinsworth? New families can contact us on 0114 2872530 or private message the Aughton Eary Years Centre page on Facebook to sign up to the Children Centre, where we can support you and provide you with information on some of the groups, activities and events we have to offer such as baby massage, welcome to the water, self-weigh, stay and play sessions and much more.

We look forward to hearing from you. The Outreach Team.

Community Litter-Picks

The Community Litter-Pick volunteers head out to help tidy up Waverley on the third weekend of each month and they would love for more residents to join them.

These events are a great opportunity to meet and chat with fellow residents whilst tidying up our local area.

The group meets by the Superbin/Community Garden at 10am on both the Saturday and Sunday of each third weekend – please see the poster for upcoming dates (this is also displayed in the WCC noticeboards)

Waverley Buds Community Garden Group

The Waverley Buds have been busy trying to ensure the pond at the garden retains the water, and the wildlife which has already moved in, is kept safe. They have used grant funding from the Ward Councillor and Harworth to replace the plastic liner with clay, to reduce likelihood of water seepage. They have also added a willow fence for birds to use as coverage as they flit for a drink and wash. The group are building a drystone wall for some creepy-crawlies and bugs to hide out. The haras fencing will remain around the pond until all the work is completed for safety reasons.

You’ll also see a few bird boxes going up shortly. These will be homemade reusing materials donated to the Buds and made by the Buds. The intention is to provide nest options for the local birds. If you are handy with wood and the right tools, why not contact the Buds and help make some bird boxes?
