As you may have seen on our website, we now have the keys to the new Community Centre, which will be known as ‘Waverley Community Hub’ when it opens later this year.

The Section 106 agreement between Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council (RMBC) and Harworth stated that Harworth must construct a Community Centre for the residents of Waverley. It did not state that the Community Centre must be fitted out for use straight away, so a building shell has been provided.

Contractors will work over the next few months to turn the building into a usable space.

We are currently unable to provide an opening date but expect it to be during the early summer months.

We have a dedicated page on our website for the Community Centre (https://www.waverley-cc.gov.uk/community-centre-build), where we will post more updates as the fit-out work progresses.

Traffic Regulation Order around Waverley Junior Academy

A legal Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) is now in place for the school markings around Waverley Junior Academy. Residents may have seen the additional signage that has been added in the area which was required to make the TRO enforceable.

Whilst the road is unadopted TROs can be made on unadopted roads, provided the public has actual and lawful access, as defined by the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 – “the access must be by the public generally and not just by the tolerance of the road owners”.

As a legal order for a TRO is in place RMBC can undertake enforcement action and officers have already started patrols by foot and using their CCTV vehicle.

Crime Prevention

Sadly there have been more reports of local car thefts recently. South Yorkshire Police have some advice on how to keep yourself and your property/car/belongings safe on their website https://www.southyorkshire.police.uk/cp/crime-prevention/

Annual Residents Meeting

We held this year’s event at Waverley Junior Academy where residents had the chance to wander round the tables to talk to the organisations in attendance.

Around 23 residents came along and had a chat with representatives from Harworth, the Land Trust, Mosodi (Active Travel), Arches Housing, RMBC, Wave Magazine, Neighbourhood Watch and our local litter pickers as well as our new Olive Lane neighbours ‘Little Olives Nursery’ and ‘Karobar Indian Restaurant’. Thank you to them all for coming along.
