In April 2026, Wave Magazine reached a milestone that feels both surreal and incredibly rewarding: our 50th issue!
What started as a side project after launching my own marketing consultancy has grown into something far bigger than I ever imagined. Having lived in Waverley since early 2013, when there was just a single completed block in the first phase of the Harron Homes development, I have had the pleasure of watching this community quite literally build itself from the ground up.
Wave was born from a simple idea. After speaking with residents and key stakeholders across Waverley, including Harworth, the residents’ association, and a growing network of contributors, it became clear that there was a real appetite for a dedicated community magazine. One that could connect people, keep everyone informed, and give local businesses a platform to reach an engaged audience.
The first issue landed in January 2018, and since then, we have proudly published every two months without fail.
Over the past 50 issues, we have been able to document the incredible growth of Waverley. From the opening of Waverley Primary Academy and the development of Olive Lane, to the creation of community spaces like the garden, local parks, walkways, and sports clubs. We have covered countless events, from summer fun days and Christmas fayres to the Queen’s Jubilee and Scarecrow Festivals, each one a reflection of the energy and spirit that defines Waverley and it’s people!
We have also taken time to look back. Exploring Waverley’s past as the Orgreave Coking Plant has always been important to me, helping to share the history of the land and showcase just how much it has transformed over the years.
Personally, I have been proud to champion Waverley beyond its borders too, whether through local events, BBC Radio Sheffield, BBC News, or the Rotherham Advertiser. Every opportunity to tell the story of this community means a lot to me.
But what truly makes Waverley special is not the buildings or developments, it is the people. The willingness to help one another, the number of groups and clubs that bring people together, and the volunteers who give their time to organise events and create opportunities for others. Over the years, I have met so many great people here, many of whom I am lucky to now call friends.
