Welcome to the first issue of 2026, and what a year it is shaping up to be for Waverley.

There is a real sense of momentum across the community as we head into the new year. Olive Lane continues to grow into the heart of Waverley, with more new openings on the way, Highwall Park nearing completion, and the hotel now fully open and welcoming guests. It is great to see so much happening locally, and a big welcome to everyone new who is joining the Waverley community as a result of this continued investment and development!

One of the highlights in this issue is our feature on the Courtyard by Marriott Hotel. Now fully open, the hotel is already becoming a key part of Waverley, and they are offering a range of discounts for local residents, which you can read more about inside this issue.

It was also a real pleasure for me to recently speak with BBC News about Waverley. The article explored not just where we are today, but the history of the land we live on and how the area has evolved over time. From its past as Orgreave Colliery to the community we know now, it was fascinating to reflect on how far Waverley has come and where it is heading next. As always, this issue is packed with community updates, including news from Waverley Community Council, who continue to work hard behind the scenes to support events, facilities and future plans for the area.

Finally, a huge thank you to everyone who makes Wave Magazine possible. To our contributors, advertisers, and our magazine sponsor Harworth Group, your continued support allows us to keep sharing the stories, updates and people that make Waverley such a special place to live.

Here’s to a positive and exciting start to 2026!
