For anyone who hasn’t heard about Waverley Wanderers FC, we are a grassroots football club with our roots in Waverley. All our teams play in the Sheffield & District Junior League and our first season was 2021/22 when we started out with just two teams in the U7 and U8 age groups.
Over the last 2 years, the club has grown steadily and this season, we have 5 league registered teams – U8 Yellow, U10 Green, U10 Orange, U11 Hawks and U12 Blacks – with our U7 Purple team in training, eagerly awaiting entry to the league next season in the U8 age group.
The 2023/24 season has brought a number of changes for the club but has been a huge success for a number of our teams, and we are incredibly proud of the U12 Blacks, who have reached the final of their league cup competition. With the final to be played on Sunday 21st April, keep an eye open for the open top bus making its way down Highfield Lane!

Thank you to our sponsors!
As a grassroots football club, we are funded entirely by membership and sponsorship, and would like to say a huge thankyou to a number of companies – some local, so less so – for their generous sponsorship of our teams this season.
- U8 Yellow – Headlands Hotel Scarborough, Winter Green & DynoRod
- U10 Green – Sky House, Winter Green & Powertherm
- U10 Orange – Winter Green & Kee Safety
- U11 Hawks – Sky House, Winter Green & Airflow Cooling
- U12 Blacks – Sky House, Winter Green & Kee Safety
A place to call home
Currently, all our teams use Woodhouse Mill Recreation Ground as their base for home games and summer training, with 3 pitches marked out for 5v5, 7v7 and 9v9 games.
Whilst we are grateful to Sheffield City Council for the use of this facility, it is not without its challenges; not least of which being the recent weather, that has seen almost all our home games from January to date either postponed or reversed.
The challenges at Woodhouse Mill will be compounded as we move into the 2024/25 season, with the current U12 Blacks moving up to the U13 age group, which sees a transition to 11v11 and requires a larger pitch, which we are unable to accommodate at Woodhouse Mill, alongside the other 3 pitches.
We are often asked by the grown-ups and sponsors associated with the club what long term ambitions are for the club, and the answer is to find a suitable place for the club to call ‘home’.
With almost 100 children accessing weekly activities through the club, we feel that the club offers valuable opportunities to the children both in Waverley and the wider community, and we would love to find a suitable facility, as close to Waverley as possible, where we can properly put down roots and bring our longer terms plans for the club to life.
How can you help?
Our club committee are actively exploring a number of opportunities for this ‘home’ both in Waverley and the wider local community, but if you, or someone close to you has a spare acre or two of land they would like to donate, please do get in touch!
As we make plans for the 2024/25 season, we are looking for an enthusiastic individual to establish our new U7 team, and also would love to form a new team in the U10 age group.
If you think that either of these people could be you, or you would like to know more, please do drop an email to secretary@waverleywanderersfc.co.uk for an informal conversation.
Finaly a note to parents we will be holding our end-of-season presentations at the Winter Green on Saturday 22nd July times & arrangements to be advised later.
