Waverley always goes to town with Halloween, more so than anywhere else I have seen, and often reminds me of what you see in Hollywood movies. There will be fun for all the family again this year, and the Waverley Events team are doing another pumpkin trail, which you will find a Halloween Bingo tick list for in this issue of Wave.

On the subject of events, there’s a summary the recent Scarecrow Festival – find out who this year’s winners were and keep an eye out for a guest appearance from the events team, school councillors and entrants into the festival on Channel 5’s ‘This week on the farm’ later in the month!

There’s a lot happening over the next couple of months that we can all get involved in as a community, so make sure you add the key dates to your diary from pages 10 & 11.

Waverley Community Council welcome two new councillors to their team and provide a useful update on the Garden Room and what they are doing to tackle speeding in the area on page 4.

We’re delighted to bring you news of some community events the Waverley Events team have planned for the remainder of the year in this issue of Wave Magazine. Starting with the annual Scarecrow Competition in September, this has become a favourite for the community and something everyone can get involved in, regardless of whether you decorate your gardens or not!

We’ll share more information about the Autumn and Winter events in forthcoming issues of Wave., but for now there are some dates for your diary on page 10.

Road adoption is always a hot topic for residents, and Waverley Community Council provide a detailed overview of how this works, which areas have been adopted and what you should expect to see once the process has taken place.

For parents with children starting, or going back, to school in September the summer holidays can be used as a time to plan for what can be a big change for both parents and children. There’s a useful advice article on page 22!

We also have our resident film, TV and music critiques who offer some suggestions to keep you entertained should we have some typical British summer rainy days throughout the holidays.

As I sat down to write the intro to our June 2021 issue I had a look back at the corresponding issue from 2020 – which was our lockdown issue. Whilst only 12 months ago, it seems like a lifetime ago that we were talking about lockdown walks, the Waverley Heroes fundraising campaign and the Waverley Rainbows that popped up all around the development.

Fast forward again and we are out socialising, and able to see family and friends again in a less restrictive environment – something we have all missed and will never take for granted again.

As things start to open back up again, so do a lot of local businesses and community groups, many of which are features in Wave. Please do you bit to support local and help everyone rebuild and reconnect again!

In this issue we have some exciting news from our magazine sponsor, Harworth, on the development of a new hotel on land going down towards the Morrisons roundabout. In addition to the plans for Olive Lane, this will no doubt bring something different to Waverley that can be enjoyed by the community.

We also have news from Waverley Wanderers FC, who are raring to go again and on the lookout for players and coaches for their junior teams. If you have any budding footballers in the house, why not get them involved!

Christmas is just around the corner, and whilst it may be slightly different this year, that doesn’t mean we can’t do what Waverley does best – and brighten up the development with lights and decorations for all to see!

It’s great to see residents getting into the Christmas spirit early this year, and with so many children now walking to and from school every day it really is a spectacle to behold at all times of the day, and is something that can be enjoyed by all.

Keep an eye out for the community events you can get involved in from the Waverley Events team, and do get involved where you can to keep this going all December-long!

In other exciting news, we are delighted to share the new plans for the retail development from our magazine sponsor, Harworth, who are introducing ‘Olive Lane’ in their update in this issue, which we hope to see moving forward from next year.

This is a much wanted, and needed, part of the development, and the revised plans seem much more achievable and relevant to what we need as a community. It’s great to see the community being consulted on the plans as well, and a big thanks must go to all the key stakeholders involved in this, from the Residents Association and Community Council, right through to you, the residents. If we all work together, we can achieve great things!
