The Remembrance Sunday outdoor service will be held on 12 November by the memorial bench off Ashbourne Way. The short service will commence at 10:45am. We will also be adding some large ‘lamppost’ poppies along Highfield Lane nearer the time. If you want to help putting them up, please do drop me an email.

The next litter pick will be on 19 November, starting at 10am at the Community Garden off Highfield Lane for a 10:30am start. Please do come along and keep our green spaces litter free!

The WCC has arranged for defibrillator training to be provided by Yorkshire Ambulance Service. There will be two separate sessions held at the AMP on 13 December from 4pm-5pm and 6-7pm.

Tickets are free of charge and we will be taking donations for Yorkshire Ambulance Service. There are a limited number of places and they must be booked in advance. If you wish to attend, please contact me by email clerk@waverley-cc.gov.uk or call on 07552 725732.

Got a free hour to spare before Christmas?

The WCC are working with the Events Team, as they prepare for the Christmas festivities. If you have an hour to spare to help with the preparation, like dressing the tree, leafletting the neighbours around central park, or helping with the set-up before the light switch-on please do drop an email to the Events Team: events.waverley@gmail.com or clerk@waverley-cc.gov.uk

School placements

The WCC is mindful that there’s uncertainty for families about the lack of school placements in the coming years. We continue to have robust conversations with Rotherham Council and the Department for Education. The date of 2026, which has been provided to Harworth, is unsatisfactory. The WCC continues to support families by lobbying the decision makers.

New families

We continue to engage with new mums and have attended the Winter Green baby group on several occasions to listen to your views. The WCC gave funding to Aughton Early Years Centre – Community Outreach and Engagement, which is being used to deliver a variety of activities for Waverley families, including a trip to Gulliver’s, family swim sessions at Aston Leisure centre, Play Mania, and a Messy session etc. Aughton Early Years Centre – Community Outreach and Engagement are delivering these, and we’d love to get your feedback on which sessions you preferred and why, so we can ensure the funds are directed to the right sessions for you and your toddler!

Not always brand-new news

Approximately 200 homes are built in Waverley each year, and that can equate to about 400-500 new residents. So here are some tips we have shared in the past, but are useful to our new neighbours:

• Across Waverley most of the roads are unadopted and still belong to various house builders
• Someone else parking in front of your homes is permitted, so long as it is not across your driveway.
• The speed limit is 30 mph. As there are limited road markings, please drive carefully.

• The Land Trust manage most of the green spaces. If a litter bin needs emptying, then email with the exact location: enquiries@thelandtrust.org.uk

This time of year does indicate more activity on Waverley; construction starts to ramp up, and we can get out and about in the community more, so we should start to see further progress on Olive Lane, the Marriott Hotel and Waverley Park, as well as some much missed events which we haven’t been able to take part in over the past couple of years.

On to developments first, we’re delighted to share the latest plans from our magazine sponsor, Harworth, on the first stage of construction of the new Waverley Park. A ‘learn to bike’ track will be part of the first phase of development, which you can read about on page 4.

You’ll be pleased to know the Waverley Events team are back (well, they never went away really) and are working hard on our next community event – Waverley’s Platinum Jubilee celebration. This is taking place on Sunday 5^th June at Central Park – make a note of the date in your diaries and keep an eye out on the Waverley Events Facebook page for more info.

Waverley Community Council also provide their regular update and are working together with Waverley Junior Academy to raise awareness of parking safety outside the school, which you can read about on page 8.

You will no doubt have seen the latest updates going around various media on the supermarket wars between Aldi and Lidl, as well as the hotel development, which we have our own update on from magazine sponsor Harworth on page 8. Our latest aerial shot of further residential development will also give you a birds-eye view of areas of Waverley you may not always get to see when walking round the estate.

Our update from Waverley Community Council provides all the latest on what is being done to tackle road safety around the school – something that is always a hot topic on the forum, so it’s good to see this being addressed.

We’re also looking forward to what the Waverley Events team has in store, with a Sunflower competition in the spring and a long awaited community event taking place in June. Check this out on page 10.

We’re delighted to bring you news of some community events the Waverley Events team have planned for the remainder of the year in this issue of Wave Magazine. Starting with the annual Scarecrow Competition in September, this has become a favourite for the community and something everyone can get involved in, regardless of whether you decorate your gardens or not!

We’ll share more information about the Autumn and Winter events in forthcoming issues of Wave., but for now there are some dates for your diary on page 10.

Road adoption is always a hot topic for residents, and Waverley Community Council provide a detailed overview of how this works, which areas have been adopted and what you should expect to see once the process has taken place.

For parents with children starting, or going back, to school in September the summer holidays can be used as a time to plan for what can be a big change for both parents and children. There’s a useful advice article on page 22!

We also have our resident film, TV and music critiques who offer some suggestions to keep you entertained should we have some typical British summer rainy days throughout the holidays.
