Jude and the Book Factory started with a simple, generous idea from a four-year-old boy. In 2023, Jude began hiding his own once-loved books for other children to find, a small act of kindness that has grown into a charity carrying his name and his spirit. Jude died just a few months later, aged five, after more than two years of treatment for high-risk Neuroblastoma, a type of cancer.

Today, the charity works across three main areas. ‘Sharing Books’ sees brand-new children’s books donated to hospitals, hospices, and families affected by grief or childhood cancer. ‘Sparking Imagination’ funds creative workshops that give children space to explore storytelling and imagination. ‘Creating Moments’ involves curating goody bags for children affected by childhood cancer.

So far, the charity has donated over 8,400 brand new books, funded creative workshop places for more than 100 children, and curated hundreds of goody bags for families who need a little extra comfort and joy.

The charity also runs a Jude and the Book Factory Little Free Library, exclusively for children and young people, at St James Walk, Woodhouse Mill.

None of this would be possible without the local community’s support. From individual donations to businesses getting involved, every contribution helps the charity reach more children and families. The charity is always looking for new supporters, whether that’s through fundraising, book donations, or corporate partnerships.
