Wow – what a rush! It’s been an incredibly exciting and busy start for the new Community Hub. We’ve welcomed two new team members, offered a full month of free hire, hosted BBC Radio Sheffield live on site, held the Annual Residents Meeting, and continued meeting and welcoming new groups into the Hub.

Waverley Community Hub

Our free month of Hub use proved a huge success, generating a fantastic response from both residents and hirers. Based on the feedback we received, we’ve also been recruiting a second caretaker to allow us to open for longer hours.

A heartfelt thank‑you to all groups who have used the Hub so far:
Snuggle and Sooth Baby Massage, SceNic Soul Yoga, Sound Serenity Jak, Early Help South, Lana’s Pilates, Mindful Minis Yoga and Craft Session, and Zumba.

We have also launched a youth club for the children of Waverley, with SJD Sports Coaching delivering sessions going forward. The Ward Councillors Baggaley and Adair kindly supported this with funding for the sessions and some games and play equipment.

BBC Radio Sheffield Live from the Hub

A big highlight this month was hosting BBC Radio Sheffield, which broadcast live from the Hub. With sunshine on Olive Lane, Paulette Edwards and the team chatted with a wide range of people across Waverley. Interviewees included Olive Lane businesses – Serve and The Canary Bar, the enthusiastic “mad dog walking team,” representatives from Waverley Christian Church, Waverley Wanderers Football Club, and Waverley Buds Community Garden Group, Brendan from our very own Wave Magazine, and even the Clerk to the WCC.

We especially appreciated those who joined in on the spot as they walked by – your stories of living and working in Waverley made the day truly special.

Annual Residents Meeting

We were delighted to host this year’s Annual Residents Meeting in the new Community Hub. Residents attending had the chance to ask questions, and chat with organisations including: Harworth, The Land Trust, CBRE, Arches Housing, Ward Councillor Baggaley, RMBC’s Parish Council & Neighbourhoods Liaison Officer, Wave Magazine and WCC members.

Thank you to everyone who attended and supported open, face‑to‑face community dialogue.

Annual Great British Spring Clean

WCC proudly supported the Keep Britain Tidy – Great British Spring Clean campaign once again. Residents and councillors headed out across Waverley during the third weekend of March for a community litter pick.

It was a beautiful day to be outdoors caring for our green spaces – and together we collected over 30 bags of litter. Thank you to everyone who helped keep Waverley looking its best!

Waverley Fun Day 2026

Get ready – Fun Day 2026 is on the way! This year’s event will take place on Saturday, 20 June, 12–3 pm on Olive Lane. We’re planning a great selection of pop‑ups, activities, and events for all ages.

More details will be shared soon on our website and Facebook page.

Waverley Train Station Update

In case you missed it, the Mayor of South Yorkshire Combined Authority, Oliver Coppard, recently unveiled a long‑term Transport Vision for the region. The plan focuses on creating a joined‑up, affordable public transport network serving every community, supported by £1.5bn of investment – £630m of which is earmarked for tram network renewal and £350m for bus reform.

Excitingly for us, the Vision includes the aim to deliver a Waverley Train Station in the 2030s. You can read the full announcement here:

Over the coming years, the Waverley development will be home to around 4,000 properties plus further commercial and retail development, so as Waverley grows, so can your business!
