Grit Bins and Snow Wardens
During the winter months, Rotherham Council (RMBC) will grit Highfield Lane and Stephenson Way, and Harworth will ensure Lescar Road is gritted. These roads are gritted because they are part of the bus route. Harworth have already arranged for the grit bins across Waverley to be filled ready for residents to access when necessary.
RMBC welcome residents to become volunteer snow wardens. They provide volunteers with the equipment and grit. Please see https://www.rotherham.gov.uk/winter-roads/snow-warden for more information if you’re interested.
The Community Centre
As you may have seen, WCC has been successful in its bid to get National Lottery Community Fund for the Community Centre. Thank you to everyone who suggested names for the new Community Centre. We received over 70 suggestions and following a discussion at the Council’s monthly meeting the name chosen was ‘Waverley Community Hub’.
The Precept
Work on the forecasts for the next financial year (2025/26) are taking place before we must submit the precept figures at the end of January to RMBC. The setting of the precept will take into account any underspend and surplus funds that are forecasted for this financial year. We hope to give residents an early indication of the precept for next year in December.
Marriott Hotel
Harworth have provided this statement. “Due to unforeseen circumstances, construction work on the new Marriott hotel in Waverley has temporarily stalled. This part of Waverley is owned by developer Stapleford Ventures Limited who bought the site from Harworth at the end of 2021 and has been leading on the development of the hotel. As master developer for the wider Waverley development, Harworth has been in regular dialogue with Stapleford in recent months as Harworth would like to see the building completed at the earliest possible opportunity. We will continue to keep the community of Waverley updated on progress”
Waverley Medical Centre
Gateway Primary Care will be operating the new Waverley Medical Centre when it opens in Spring next year. They hope to hold a couple of open days for residents to have a look around before it begins providing appointments. They will provide more information about how to register as a new patient or if you are moving from another GP service.
If you are not already registered with a GP service in the area you can register with the Canklow Road Surgery now. The registration form to join the surgery can be found here: https://www.canklowroadsurgery.nhs.uk/join-the-surgery (Please ignore the location checker.)
Fun in the Forest
Thank you to Angela from Adventuring Angels who helped 40 families to have fun during the forest sessions held in the October half term holiday. The children (and their grown-ups!) enjoyed swinging from the trees in hammocks, constructing dens and fairy houses, creating mud characters on trees and toasting marshmallows on the campfire among other things. Keep an eye on the Adventuring Angels Facebook page for more events in the future – https://www.facebook.com/forestforeveryone
Rotherham Hospice
Jake from Rotherham Hospice visited our October Council meeting to tell us about the work that they do. Approximately half of their £6million annual running costs comes from fundraising and we heard about some of the festive fundraising activities that you may like to get involved with. These include the Santa Dash at Herringthorpe Stadium on 7th December and their Christmas Tree recycling scheme. Please see the flyers on the WCC noticeboards or the Hospice website for further information – www.rotherhamhospice.org.uk
