Elections
It has been a wet and jam-packed spring for the WCC. We hosted the annual resident meeting in April, the elections in May as well as the annual council meeting. The June funday was the highlight!
The Waverley elections resulted in six candidates for the seven seats, and so was an uncontested election. If there had been more candidates than seats, residents would have had the option to vote on which seven would become the new members of the Waverley Community Council. The members are Paul Norton, Chairman, Liz Hoyland, Vice-Chairperson, Neil Adshead, Jamie Baggaley, Viral Vyas and Kayleigh Newton who is our newest member. After advertising the vacancy we co-opted Amin Miah-Allen to fill the vacant seat.
Waverley Funday
Is there anything sweeter than some fun in the sun in Waverley!
Bringing the community together at the Waverley Funday is a highlight of our year. It has been made so much easier with the support of the Junior Academy, and being able to host it on their playground. The sun shone and the wind blew, but it was amazing seeing all families enjoying the buzz of the event. This was added to by the brilliant performances from Jack’s Theatre, Excel Dance, Excel Marshall Arts and Glendarragh Dance Academy, with music from Divine Sounds.
The variety of stalls the residents provided was impressive, and we had some free games on offer, as well as some of the community groups joining us, including the Rivers Team, the Waverley Buds Garden Group and the Waverley Wanderers Football Club. The aerial platform from the Fire Engine, was expertly controlled by the fire fighters, and gave the impression it was about to land the platform in the middle event!

A big thank you to Tim, the caretaker at the Junior Academy, working in the background to make the event happen, and keep the site tidy. Also, a special thanks to our newest member of staff Claire, who managed and organised the event, with some welcomed advice from the people who ran it last year.
Insight House
The WCC provided grant funding to the Work-Wise Foundation, and alongside Well North Enterprises, additional lessons around sustainability in our homes was delivered to the children at the Waverley Junior Academy. This culminated in a visit to the Insight House next door to the show homes on the Barratt Affinity development. The Insight House shows our young adults how homes are made, asks them what careers are involved in house developments, and considers how much more sustainable homes can be. It is a real thought provoking project for all involved!
WJA expansion approved
The green light was given for the expansion of the local Junior Academy on 6 June at the Rotherham Council Planning Board meeting. The WCC attended to represent the parents, and support the extension. As we understand it building works will commence later Autumn.
